The Water and Sewage Company (WASCO) is launching the Greater Maseru Water Supply Project (GMWSP) today, a groundbreaking initiative that aims to provide clean and sustainable water to the residents of Lesotho’s capital city.

The GMWSP was developed in phases beginning with a feasibility study in 2016, followed by detailed design in 2021 and culminating in construction this month.

According to WASCO’s public relations manager, Lineo Moqasa, the GMWSP is expected to benefit more than 90 000 residents by the year 2040, directly addressing historical services backlogs and water shortages in underserved communities.

Moqasa indicated that the project forms part of the government’s broader water access and development agenda.

The project, she said, also demonstrates WASCO’S commitment to improving the quality of life for residents in urban and peri-urban areas of the Maseru district.

The GMWSP will supply Ha Makhoathi, Ha Bosofo, Mazenod, Ha ‘Masana, Ha Tsautse, Qoaling, Ha Ts’iame, Ha Senekane to Berea and Sehlabeng including Ha Mabote, Ts’enola, Ha Foso and Marabeng with clean water.
